Day 30 – A Song that Makes You Want to Help the World, help the environment, end poverty, help society…

16 Mar

I know that “We Are the World” is one of the most striking songs ever released, but with the modern times, one of the most striking songs I’ve ever heard in my generation is Black Eyed Peas’ “Where Is the Love?”

The message of the song speaks about what is happening in our world today, about the things that trouble the society.  It is true that a lot of people ask questions as to what is happening to our world.  Whatever happened to the teaching, “love your neighbors?” The song poses a challenge for everyone, to stand up, to make a difference, and to help make our world a better place.  Where is the love, y’all?

What’s wrong with the world mama
People living like they ain’t got no mama
I think the whole world’s addicted to the drama
Only attracted to things that will bring you trauma
Over seas, yeah, we tryin’ to stop terrorism
But we still got terrorists here living in the USA
The big CIA, the Bloods, and the Crips and the KKK

But if you only have love for your own race
Then you only leave space to discriminate
And to discriminate only generates hate
And when you hate then you’re bound to get irate
Madness is what you demonstrate
And that’s exactly how anger works and operates
Man, you got to have love just to set it straight
Take control of your mind and meditate
Let your soul gravitate to the love y’all

[Chorus]
People killing, people dying
Children hurtin’, hear them crying
Can you practice what you preach
Or would you turn the other cheek
Father father father father
Send some guidance from above
‘Cause people got me, got me questioning
Where is the love

It just ain’t the same all the ways of change
New days are strange
Is the world insane
If love and peace is so strong
Why the pieces of love don’t belong
Nations dropping bombs
Chemical gases filling lungs of little ones
With ongoing suffering as the youth are young
So ask yourself is the lovin’ really gone
So I can ask myself really what is going wrong
The world that we’re living in
People keep on giving in
Making wrong decisions only visions of the dividend
Not respecting each other
Denying thy brother
A war going on, but the reasons undercover
The truth is kept secret
It’s swept under the rug
If you never know truth then you never know love
Where’s the love y’all, c’mon, I don’t know
Where’s the truth y’all, c’mon, I don’t know
Where’s the love y’all

[Chorus]

I feel the weight of the world on my shoulder
As I’m gettin’ older y’all people gets colder
Most of us only care about money makin’
Selfishness got us following the wrong direction
Wrong information always shown by the media
Negative images is the main criteria
Infecting the young minds faster than bacteria
Kids want to act like what they see in the cinemas

Whatever happened to the values of humanity
Whatever happened to the fairness and equality
Instead of spreading love
We spreading animosity
Lack of understanding
Leading us away from unity
That’s the reason why sometimes I’m feelin’ under
That’s the reason why sometimes I’m feelin’ down
It’s no wonder why sometimes I’m feelin’ under
Gotta keep our faith alive ’till love is found

Day 29 – A Song from Your Childhood

4 Mar

This is definitely a song that I remember being constantly played by my siblings and my mom back then.  So, it isn’t surprising that this is one of the first songs I learned to sing. 🙂 Brings back memories of me singing on the table with a brush in hand to serve as my microphone😀

Beautiful Girl – Jose Mari Chan

Day 28 – A Song that Makes You Feel Inspired and Creative

3 Mar

Another of those “positive vibes” songs… Vanessa Carlton’s “A Thousand Miles” is one of those songs that usually inspire me.  As well as her song “Ordinary Day”😀

Day 27 – A Song You Wish You Could Play

2 Mar

I used to play the piano but I, uhm… never practiced after stopping, so my skills pretty much suck now.  I have to say that I really regret not pursuing my lessons.  Two of my favorite female artists play the piano and I really want to play their songs! Here are two songs (one from each artist) that I would very much like to play on the piano.

Day 26 – A Song that You Can Play on an Instrument

1 Mar

This was one of the first few songs that I learned to play on the guitar.  Up to now, this remains as one of my favorite songs :)  This also happened to be the first song that I heard by Paramore. 🙂

I am finding out that maybe I was wrong
That I’ve fallen down and I can’t do this alone

Stay with me, this is what I need, please?

Sing us a song and we’ll sing it back to you
We could sing our own but what would it be without you?

I am nothing now and it’s been so long
Since I’ve heard the sound, the sound of my only hope

This time I will be listening.

Sing us a song and we’ll sing it back to you
We could sing our own but what would it be without you?

This heart, it beats, beats for only you
This heart, it beats, beats for only you

This heart, it beats, beats for only you
My heart is yours

This heart, it beats, beats for only you
My heart is yours
(My heart, it beats for you)

This heart, it beats, beats for only you (It beats, beats for only you)
My heart is yours (My heart is yours)

This heart, it beats, beats for only you (Please don’t go now, please don’t fade away)
My heart, my heart is yours (Please don’t go now, please don’t fade away)

(Please don’t go now, please don’t fade away) My heart is yours
(Please don’t go now, please don’t fade away) My heart is yours
(Please don’t go, please don’t fade away)
(Please don’t go now, please don’t fade away) My heart is…

Day 25 – A Song that Makes You Laugh

26 Feb

When I first saw this on MYX, I really laughed out loud.  I mean, four grown men on treadmills… And one of them is going bald… And they’re all dressed up.😀

They basically remind me of overgrown children. :D  or adults in their second childhood! hahaha😀

Day 24 – A Song that You Want to Play at Your Funeral (A Tribute to Virginia)

25 Feb

Last February 9th, a good friend and co-worker of mine passed away.  The day before, I was planning to put up my post for the 30-day song challenge, with the category “a song that you want to play at your funeral”.  I stumbled upon this song on that very same day.

There are times that even though you have not met a person face-to-face, there is a connection that quickly builds up.   Through chats and phone calls, I was able to talk with Ate Virgz and she became a good friend of mine.  I promised that when I had the chance to go to Manila again, I’d meet up with her and other friends at work.  She even offered that I could stay at her place if I didn’t have a place to stay in.  These little things meant a lot to me.

For this post, instead of choosing a song that I want to play at my funeral, I dedicate one that I would have wanted to play during her burial/cremation.  I know that you are in a better place, where there is no more pain.  I have always admired your strength.  God speed.

YOU HOLD ME NOW by HILLSONG UNITED

VERSE 1:
On that day when I see
All that You have for me
When I see You face to face
There surrounded by Your grace
All my fears swept away
In the light of Your embrace
Where Your love is all I need
And forever I am free

PRE CHORUS 1:
Where the streets are made of gold
In Your presence healed and whole
Let the songs of heaven
Rise to You alone

CHORUS:
No weeping no hurt or pain
No suffering You hold me now
You hold me now
No darkness no sick or lame
No hiding You hold me now
You hold me now

VERSE 2:
In this life I will stand
Through my joy and my pain
Knowing theres a greater day
Theres a hope that never fails
Where Your Name is lifted high
And forever praises rise
For the glory of Your Name
Im believing for the day

PRE CHORUS 2:
Where the wars and violence cease
All creation lives in peace
Let the songs of heaven
Rise to You alone

BRIDGE:
For eternity
All my heart will give
All the glory to Your Name

Day 23 – A Song that You Want to Play at Your Wedding

31 Jan

I actually have a lot of songs in mind, but this is one of my favorites. 🙂 It has a sweet yet haunting element to it.

All the things you are to me
Darling you have set me free
Always give you what you need
and what you deserve
All the joy and all this love
I know that it is from above
And now together there’s enough to fill this world

‘Cause you are the love of my life
You are the love of my life
And now we’re man and wife

All the things that you will do
And now i’m standing next to you
And darling I will see you through the rest of our lives
With you beside me I have won
I’m glad i’ve waited for so long
There is no doubt that you are the one
for me

You are the love of my life
You are the love of my life

There’ll be times(we make the time)
There’ll be things(we will bring)
Everything is going to be fine
Now you’re in my life
So I give you heart and soul
It’s yours to take wherever you go
Through the years you’ll always know it’s yours to keep
God has blessed this sacred vow
Angels line above and look down
See the two of us, we found the perfect love

You are the love of my life
You are the love of my life
You are the love of my life
Yeah, you are the love of my life
Now we’re man and wife
We’re man and wife
Now we’re man and wife
We’re man and wife
We’re man and wife

Day 22 – A Song You Listen to when You’re Sad

7 Jan

This song has this heart-wrenching element to it. I listen to a lot of sad songs when I’m sad but this is currently the one that tops my list.

Day 21 – A Song that You Listen to When You’re Happy

8 Nov

This song has a certain vibe that could keep me happy all day🙂

I turn the music up, I got my records on
I shut the world outside until the lights come on
Maybe the streets alight, maybe the trees are gone
But I feel my heart start beating to my favorite song

And all the kids they dance, all the kids all night
Until Monday morning feels another life
I turn the music up, I’m on a roll this time
And heaven is in sight, Ooh

I turn the music up, I got my records on
From underneath the rubble sing a rebel song
Don’t want to see another generation drop
I’d rather be a comma than a full stop

Maybe I’m in the black, maybe I’m on my knees
Maybe I’m in the gap between the two trapezes
But my heart is beating and my pulses start
Cathedrals in my heart

As we saw, oh, this light
I swear you emerge blinking into
To tell me it’s alright

As we soar walls
Every siren is a symphony
And every tear’s a waterfall

Is a waterfall, ah
Is a waterfall, ah
Is a waterfall
Every tear is a waterfall, ah

So you can hurt, hurt me bad
But still I’ll raise the flag, Wooh

It was a wa-ah-ah-ah-aterfall
A wa-ah-ah-ah-aterfall

Oh, Oh

Every tear
Every tear
Every teardrop is a waterfall

Oh, Oh
